Everyday Polyglot Experiments
Mandarin Chinese somehow ended up on my radar after I started working with a few colleagues from Shanghai. Most of our communication is in English, but sometimes they chat with each other in Mandarin during breaks or before meetings start.

What helped me the most was finding a course that allows you to study Сhinese on the go, because that matches my routine pretty well. I usually open the lessons during commutes or while waiting somewhere. The nice part is that the exercises mix listening, pronunciation practice, and short dialogues that reflect everyday situations. That approach helped me understand how tones work in real speech instead of just memorizing words. Another thing I learned quickly is that repeating phrases out loud is extremely useful with Mandarin. At first I felt awkward talking to my phone, but it helps train your ear and mouth at the same time. I also combine lessons with casual exposure like watching short videos or listening to Chinese music.
